About this Speaker

Kim has worked in the voluntary sector for 18 years and worked across many disciplines in the homelessness sector including mental health, addictions, criminal justice and also with marginalised groups and those seeking refuge, both in Northern Ireland and previously in the greater Manchester area.

Kim studied Social policy and Administration at the University of Ulster before pursuing a career in Social Work and obtained a Professional Social work qualification at the University of Salford and obtained her practice teacher award in 2009. Kim, more recently, also obtained a professional Dual Diagnosis qualification at Queens University Belfast.

Kim’s professional Social Work career spans a variety of service delivery models and across the spectrum of complex needs. She previously worked in the Wigan & Leigh’s substance misuse team and went on to work across numerous residential addiction services with Turning Point. Kim furthered her experience with ADS (Addiction Dependency Solutions) and implemented the pilot DIP “Test on arrest” service in the Rochdale area and assisted with the “Restriction on Bail” scheme in efforts to encourage engagement with support services as an alternative to custody.

Kim returned to Northern Ireland to work with Extern (high risk offender services) and furthered her experience when setting up the dedicated Alcohol Floating Support service, the first of its kind at the time. Kim was appointed senior practitioner of the Homeless Support Team with Extern and later appointed Project Manager.

Kim continues to represent Extern at a number of forums including NIHE Homeless action planning, Refugee and Asylum action forum, Traveller support Network, Homeless Prevention floating support Forum, Belfast City Council street planning forum, Home office 3rd sector providers forum and local safeguarding forums.
