About this Speaker

Iain Cameron has worked in the Drugs and Alcohol sector for 20 years now. His work has spanned across various roles in the sector and before being seconded to Extern he worked for the Belfast Trust Drug Outreach Team.

One of his earliest roles with Extern was as the co-ordinator of the Drug Accommodation Support Project (DASP) with Extern. This work is dedicated to working with IV drug users experiencing homelessness.

In 2016 he moved to the role of Co-ordinator of the Low Threshold Drug and Alcohol services within Extern, helping to establish Drug and Alcohol services in the Southern and Northern Health Trust areas in N.Ireland.

Following the rise of street injecting and overdose deaths in the Belfast area Iain helped establish Extern’s Assertive Outreach Service (SISS) providing Harm Reduction services in Belfast City Centre. More recently he has supported Extern to open the first non-statutory Needle Exchange in N.Ireland, situated in Belfast City Centre. Ian is now the manager of Extern’s Harm Reduction services across Belfast.

Having established himself as one of the authoritative voices in N.Ireland on this work, Iain has presented at a number of National and International Conferences and has been involved in delivering WHO and HRI initiatives in Afghanistan, Portugal and various countries around the world.
